WORLD FIRST E-LEARNING COURSES IN BULK MATERIALS HANDLING ANNOUNCED
The SA Institute of Materials Handling has announced that the first of its electronic learning (E-learning) training courses in Bulk Materials Handling technology will be available for distribution in February 2003.
The courses have been authored by CKIT in South Africa and are believed to be the first to be offered in electronic format worldwide.
The Basic course, consisting of 24 modules, is aimed at supplementing on-site operational training and will take the learner from beginner level to competence in the operation and maintenance of all types of conveyor.
A shorter more intensive course will also be offered for more experienced learners which will formalise and recognise the knowledge which they have accumulated in the field.
The electronic format will allow students to undertake the course at a pace dictated by their abilities and the time available to them away from their operational duties. However the course has been designed for completion within one year.
The final content of both courses will be scrutinised by highly qualified and experienced members of the Bulk Materials Handling profession and will be certificated by the SA Institute of Materials Handling.
Successful completion of the courses will provide the learners with recognition of their level of competence and lead to improved operational efficiency and safety in the use of conveyor technology to the benefit of both the worker and his employer.
Further courses at Technician and Graduate level are planned for later in 2003.
